How to read the graph
June 14, 2005 by MicroChip
The bar graph above represents a 24 hour timeline in 5 minute chunks and is shown in US Eastern Time. The black bar on top indicates the most recent probe. Connection to the GRC news server is attempted every 5 minutes. The result is indicated by a Success, Undetermined, or Fail bar. The leftmost side of the chart is always 00:00 hours (midnight) and the rightmost side of the chart is always 23:55 hours (5 minutes prior to midnight). Bands to the left of the black marker represent the current day, while bands to the right of the marker indicate the previous day. This way it shows a running map of the preceeding 24 hours. How it works
June 14, 2005 by MicroChip
Every test cycle the monitor attempts to connect to both the GRC news server, and as a sanity check, an alternate server as well. If the monitor is able to connect to GRC, then obviously the server is up. If it cannot connect to GRC, but is able to connect to the alternate server, then GRC is definitely down. If it cannot connect to either server, then there is no sure way to tell the status of GRC. This method means more accurate detection of true status. |
